Safety ranking

The safest boroughs in London, ranked

Lewisham is currently the safest London borough on SettleWithUs. All 14 boroughs we cover, ranked using police.uk street-level crime data from 2026-03. Fewer crimes per postcode → higher score.

Methodology

For every postcode we cover, we pull the last full month of police.uk street-level crime within a 1-mile radius. Fewer crimes → higher safety score (0–100), rescaled against the full London cohort so scores are directly comparable. Borough scores are averages across the postcodes we cover in each borough. Data month: 2026-03.

Frequently asked questions

What is the safest borough in London?
On the latest data (2026-03), Lewisham tops the ranking with a safety score of 86/100. Outer-London boroughs consistently outperform inner ones.
Are outer boroughs always safer?
Almost always, yes. Central boroughs (Westminster, Camden, Southwark) inherit crime from high-footfall retail, transport hubs and night-time economy — even residential wards inside them get pulled down by the averages. Zoom to a specific postcode to see a fairer picture.
How fresh is the data?
police.uk publishes with a ~6-week lag. Current month shown: 2026-03. We refresh scores whenever a new month is released.
