Methodology

For every postcode we cover, we pull the last full month of police.uk street-level crime within a 1-mile radius. Fewer crimes → higher safety score (0–100), rescaled against the full London cohort so scores are directly comparable. Borough scores are averages across the postcodes we cover in each borough. Data month: 2026-03.

Are outer boroughs always safer?

Almost always, yes. Central boroughs (Westminster, Camden, Southwark) inherit crime from high-footfall retail, transport hubs and night-time economy — even residential wards inside them get pulled down by the averages. Zoom to a specific postcode to see a fairer picture.
